Will the next pope be Haitian?

Date:

The question of whether the next pope could be Haitian, especially with Cardinal Chibly Langlois, raises complex debates.

Although eligible, Langlois does not fit the profile of the “papabili”, those influential cardinals with networks within the Curia.

His appointment in 2014 by Pope Francis was a strong gesture, but he has not established significant connections at the Vatican, which puts him at a disadvantage in a conclave.

While influential figures such as Pietro Parolin and Matteo Zuppi are in the running, Langlois remains low-profile on the international scene.

Although he embodies a Church focused on the marginalized, his lack of Roman experience and roots in Vatican institutions limit his chances.

The papal election, though spiritual, is above all a pragmatic affair, where realism prevails over idealism, making his candidacy more symbolic than authentic.
