The President of the Court of Cassation and the CSPJ, Me. René Sylvestre died on Wednesday June 23 as a result of Covid-19.
Tested positive on June 19, Judge René Sylvestre succumbed to pandemic Covid-19 on Wednesday at the Mirbalais University Hospital, where he was receiving the treatment his case required.
René Sylvestre, a native of St Marc, has a thirty-year career in the Haitian judiciary. Long before becoming President of the Court of Cassation on February 1, 2019, and President of the High Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), he was Deputy Government Commissioner, then Government Commissioner for the Court of First Instance in his hometown.
René Sylvestre has also served as a judge in the land section of the St-Marc Court of First Instance, Dean of the St-Marc Court of First Instance, Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation of the Republic, Government Commissioner at the Court of Cassation and ex-officio member of the High Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ).
