In the Dominican Republic as in the United States, Haitians are unwelcome. From the massive and inhumane deportations endured by our compatriots on the other side of the island to the uncertainty hanging over beneficiaries of the Biden program living in fear of expulsion, the situation is alarming.
Despite the tragic fate reserved for Haitian nationals abroad, the so-called state authorities remain indifferent. To this day, no concrete measures have been taken by the Transitional Presidential Council or the government to restore security or create an environment conducive to the flourishing of Haitians in their own country.
Only one logic seems to guide past regimes and the one currently in place: making money and staying in power. Meanwhile, the Haitian people, unable to live with dignity at home, turn to a foreign land filled with humiliation, indignity, and existential anxiety.
This is why, more than ever, Haitians must rise, rebel, and revolt against a power indifferent to their suffering.
