President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated early this morning at his private residence in Pèlerin 5. His wife Martine, wounded in the attack, was rushed to a hospital in the capital. Her state of health is more or less stable, contrary to rumours that the former First Lady had died.
In a note from the Prime Minister’s Office, acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph asserts that the assassination was carried out by a group of unidentified individuals, some of whom spoke Spanish.
Further on, the Prime Minister’s Office condemns this act as odious, inhuman and barbaric.
Dr Claude Joseph urged the population to remain calm. The situation in the country is under the control of the Haitian National Police and the country’s armed forces,” he added.
