United States: Visa Suspension for Haitian Diplomatic Passport Holders in the Dominican Republic

In a note addressed to the Haitian authorities, the U.S. Consulate in the Dominican Republic officially announced that it will no longer issue visas to holders of Haitian diplomatic and official passports. This decision, driven by national security concerns, comes as most applications from this group were processed in Santo Domingo.

This tightening of policy falls within the framework of the new Immigration and Nationality Act adopted under the Trump administration, which imposes stricter entry restrictions on citizens of certain countries, including Haiti, in order to protect the United States against terrorist threats and other security risks.

In an official statement, the Haitian Embassy in the Dominican Republic confirmed the suspension, specifying that even holders of B1/B2 visas—traditionally issued for business or tourism—are now affected, regardless of the type of passport used.
