Haitian Foreign Minister Blames Trump and Abinader Administrations for His Failures

At the 24th edition of Haiti’s “Tuesdays of the Nation,” Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste attributed the shortcomings of his tenure to external pressures, specifically targeting the Trump administration in the United States and the Dominican government under President Luis Abinader.
In his remarks, Jean-Baptiste claimed that both nations actively undermined Haiti’s diplomatic initiatives. He accused Washington of dismissing the “LOI HELP/HOPE” project, a key proposal aimed at addressing Haiti’s challenges, while alleging that Santo Domingo, under Abinader’s leadership, obstructed efforts to resolve ongoing bilateral tensions.
These statements come amid widespread criticism of Jean-Baptiste’s leadership, which many describe as lacking vision, initiative, and tangible results. His tenure has seen little progress in enhancing Haiti’s international reputation or strengthening its regional alliances.
Critics argue that Jean-Baptiste’s leadership has been marked by haphazard decision-making and an inability to effectively advocate for Haiti’s interests on the regional stage. Rather than taking accountability for these shortcomings, the minister appears to be deflecting blame onto foreign governments. Analysts suggest this approach highlights his own incompetence rather than evidence of an international conspiracy against Haiti.
With mounting pressure, many now view Jean-Baptiste’s resignation as a political necessity to revitalize Haiti’s diplomacy and shift toward proactive, solution-oriented strategies.
