Blood Flows Again in L’Artibonite: The Prime Minister’s Office Prefers Political Theater

Blood flowed again this Saturday in L’Estère, in a department of L’Artibonite that has become the grim symbol of the country’s security collapse.

The massacre perpetrated by the “Kokorat san ras” gang in Kapenyen, claiming over seven lives, is not a mere tragic news item. It is a symptom of a gangrene eating away at the nation, glaring evidence of the daily terror inflicted on a population abandoned to its fate.

A Population Held Hostage, an Absent State

The observation, repeated to the point of nausea, remains a glaring truth: the people of L’Artibonite live as hostages. Fear is their daily reality.

The same criminals who dared to burn down the Marchand Dessalines police station—the very symbol of state authority—continue their destructive march with total impunity.

The Silence of Power: A Betrayal

In the face of this descent into hell, the silence and inaction of the authorities are more than a betrayal.

It is utterly intolerable to see the de facto Prime Minister, freshly returned, indulging in staged political theatrics and calculated public appearances while L’Artibonite suffocates under the yoke of violence.

This gaping disconnect between the government’s displayed priorities and the reality endured by the people of L’Artibonite is an insult to their suffering.

A Silence That Condemns

The invasion of the towns of Lachapelle and Marchand Dessalines by armed gangs has elicited no official response worthy of the name. This silence is a chilling admission of the impotence—or worse, indifference—of institutions consumed by internal power struggles while the country burns.

An Urgent Response Is Needed

The situation demands firm, immediate, and coordinated action. Every hour of inaction costs lives. Every day of hesitation strengthens the oppressors and plunges the population deeper into despair.

The state has a sacred duty to protect its citizens.

Restoring Control, Delivering Justice

It is imperative that law enforcement, equipped with the necessary resources and unwavering political will, regain control of these territories surrendered to anarchy.

Justice must pursue and punish the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

The people of L’Artibonite, and indeed all Haitians, have the fundamental right to live in safety. The state must wake up
