Haitians Threatened with Deportation in the United States: Kathia Verdier Lies Like an Ordinary Citizen

As thousands of Haitians face the threat of deportation from the United States, Kathia Verdier’s statements have sparked strong reactions within the diaspora and public opinion.

During the program Les Mardis de la nation, she declared that “home is home” and urged her compatriots to “keep a cool head.”

A poorly received statement: While her intention may have been to call for calm, many see it as a blatant denial of the realities faced by Haitian migrants confronting imminent deportations. Her critics denounce her minimization of the crisis in Haiti, a country plunged into widespread insecurity, chronic political instability, and a complete collapse of public services. In these conditions, forced return amounts, for many, to putting their lives in danger.

This discourse, deemed out of touch with on-the-ground realities, highlights the growing gap between certain state representatives and the real concerns of the Haitian diaspora.

Although some observers interpret her words as a call for dignity, the lack of concrete commitment to support those facing deportation remains deeply concerning.
