Completely effaced at the head of the MAE, Harvel Jean-Baptiste welcomes the election of Pope Leo XIV: his first political assessment

Date:

Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harvel Jean-Baptiste, recently attracted attention with a striking tweet, hailing the election of Pope Leo XIV.

This gesture, though symbolic, represents his first political achievement since his appointment.

In his tweet, he expresses the hope that this new pontificate will foster solidarity and understanding between peoples, particularly in the face of migration issues.

However, this assessment, described as “luminous”, raises questions about the Minister’s commitment in a complex global diplomatic context.

The challenges facing Haiti call for concrete, bold reforms, like those put in place by his predecessor, who paved the way for the modernization of Haitian diplomacy, notably by defending the rights of our compatriots abroad and raising Haiti’s profile on the international stage.

Today, while Jean-Baptiste seems content with silent management, his tweet in support of the Pope remains the illustration of his first major record, leaving observers waiting for significant reforms for the country.
