On July 23, 2021, the state funeral of former president Jovenel Moïse was held in the north of the country, in Madeline to be precise.

The funeral ceremony was attended by a number of diplomats, including the US Ambassador to Haiti, Michèle Sison, the newly-installed Prime Minister, Dr. Ariel Henry, and political figures, including JJean Charles Moïse, leader of the “Pitit Desalin” party and fierce opponent of the PHTK regime.

Taking the floor to eulogize her husband, by whose side she spent 25 years, Martine Moïse made it clear that the President had been betrayed.

Saddened by her husband’s departure, Martine promises to continue the fight led by Jovenel Moïse, while demanding justice for the late president.

” si nou rete bwa kwaze san nou ap kontinye koule. Jodi a se Jovenel, demen se ka li menm, ou menm, nou menm … Nou ka pèdi yon batay men nou pap pèdi lagè. Lit la poko fini.” said the widow of former President Jovenel Moïse.

For his part, the eldest son of the former AGITRANS boss, Joverlin Moïse, praised his father’s qualities.

“papa m se yon moun ki te gen lanmou, menm sil tap viv nan mitan mechan. Li te sensè malgre li tap viv nan mitan trèt”, a t’il martelé in tears.

Although security was tight throughout the funeral, this didn’t stop activists from expressing their frustration. Angry, they demanded justice for the man murdered by mercenaries in his home on the night of July 7.

It should be noted that a few hours after the funeral ceremony, scenes of looting and arson were reported in some parts of the country’s second-largest city. Supporters of the late president set fire to a number of private businesses. Journalists The attackers are forced to camouflage themselves in t-shirts paying tribute to the former president to save their skins.
