Haitian artists unite to rescue Garry Didier Pérez

Date:

Garry Didier Pérez is suffering from kidney failure. Artists and other members of the Haitian music industry have joined forces to come to the rescue of the former Zenglen singer.

The 90s generation certainly knows this charismatic, curly-haired singer. His videos were broadcast on Haitian television. “Anba latè”, a black-and-white clip, is one of his most famous, produced by “Videos Plus”. But one of the singer’s greatest hits is the song “Fidèl” by the Zenglen group, a sort of hymn to life and to Haitian music.

Garry Didier Pérez leaves his mark on this group, which continues to be a springboard for great talent.

Garry, who emigrated to the United States some thirty years ago, is currently suffering from kidney failure. This chronic illness requires considerable financial resources for medical follow-up.

To help the artist, an initiative has been set up. The aim is to raise funds for the singer.

Clinton Benoît, former lead singer of the group D’Zine, was contacted by Garry, who asked him to alert other artists to his illness and difficulties.

As a social worker and mental health therapist, Benoît took his musician brother’s appeal to heart.

The doctors are demanding between US$150,000 and US$200,000, while only US$10,000 is available, he tells us.

Artists and die-hard fans of Garry Didier Pérez are getting involved in the fund-raising campaign. Women’s associations, in particular Fanm kore Fanm, producer Zagalo and other members of the diaspora promise to join the movement.

Clinton Benoît is not alone in this mobilization activity. His staff includes Jean Brutus Dérissaint, Jean Hérard Richard dit Richie, Gazman Pierre, Phillipe Saint Louis and others.

A call for solidarity goes out to all musicians, fans of Garry and of Haitian music, to enable the talented singer to continue enjoying life.
