Draft Constitution: Inconsistency, the Second Signature of Fritz Alphonse Jean

Date:

In a recent interview, Fritz Alphonse Jean stated that he does not understand the content of the draft Constitution.
Yet, he had personally approved the decree launching the referendum.
➡️ A contradiction that raises serious questions.

A Contradictory Act

The current coordinator of the Transitional Presidential Council, Fritz Alphonse Jean, is clearly one of the most contradictory figures in Haitian politics today.

🗨️ “I do not understand the draft Constitution,” he told five journalists during a press briefing.

And yet, on June 24, 2015, during a Council of Ministers meeting, he approved the decree launching the referendum process surrounding that very document.

This blatant inconsistency raises serious concerns about his political stance.

 A Questionable Leadership

❓ How can a leader support such a fundamental document while publicly admitting that he does not understand its content?

This statement casts doubt on:

  • his personal credibility
  • the legitimacy of the constitutional process
  • the coherence of leadership within the transitional council

🔍 Wavering governance undermines any serious attempt at reform.

A Discredited Governance Style

To many observers, this position reflects:

  • a lack of clear vision
  • a governing style based on improvisation
  • an alarming ambiguity in decision-making

In a country in crisis, where institutional reform is critical, such recklessness sends a troubling signal.

Haiti cannot afford leaders who do not master the tools of transition.

The draft Constitution deserves a genuine civic debate, but it requires, above all, leaders who are:

  • clear-headed
  • consistent
  • sincerely committed to institutional reconstruction
