On Tuesday May 2, the United States officially placed the Haitian armed group “Viv Ansanm” on the list of terrorist organizations of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), part of the US Treasury Department.
According to OFAC, “Viv Ansanm” is considered a transnational criminal terrorist organization, established since September 2023. The designation is based on Section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224, as amended by Executive Order 13886, which allows the U.S. government to sanction entities deemed responsible for terrorist activities or supporting international terrorism.
In addition, the coalition for which Barbecue is spokesman is also listed under the SDGT (Specially Designated Global Terrorist) and FTO (Foreign Terrorist Organization) programs, resulting in an automatic freeze of its assets in the USA, a ban on access to the US financial system, and heavy sanctions against any person or organization maintaining economic or logistical relations with it.
