Serious Violations of Children’s Rights: “Viv Ansanm” Gang Listed on UN’s “List of Shame”

Date:

In its annual report published on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the UN Secretary-General, for the first time, included a Haitian armed group on its infamous “list of shame.” The criminal coalition “Viv Ansanm” has been accused of serious violations of children’s rights in the context of urban armed conflict.

Formed in 2024 through the merger of the rival G9 and G-Pèp coalitions, “Viv Ansanm” has been noted for its brutality. According to the report, the group is responsible for murders, mutilations, rapes, sexual violence, and attacks on schools and hospitals.

The figures are alarming: in 2024, the UN recorded 2,269 serious violations affecting 1,373 children in Haiti. Among these cases:

  • 213 children killed
  • 138 injured
  • 566 victims of sexual violence, including 406 rapes and 160 gang rapes
  • 302 children recruited by armed gangs

Compared to 2023, this represents a 490% increase in serious violations, placing Haiti among the five most affected countries in the world.
