Expulsion of over 119,000 Haitians to the Dominican Republic: Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s government remains silent

Date:

The migration crisis between Haiti and the Dominican Republic has been exacerbated by the expulsion of more than 119,000 Haitians in an irregular situation in less than four months.

Dominican migration policy, led by President Luis Abinader, aims to reduce “migrant overpopulation” and is accompanied by controversial methods, such as collective expulsions denounced by Amnesty International.

Meanwhile, Haiti, already in the grip of a serious internal crisis, is struggling to respond to this situation, with a massive return of expellees to a country in disarray.

The absence of reception and support plans reinforces the urgent need for regional cooperation.

We call for international mediation and stress that migration cannot be solved by force, but requires social justice and solidarity to prevent further violence and poverty in the region.
