Failed Constitutional Referendum CPT and Government Urged to Account for False Promises
Partager l'article

On May 11, the constitutional reform referendum did not take place. Despite heavy publicity, the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) and the government of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé had firmly announced it for that date. Clearly, it was yet another lie.

In response, Haitian human rights organizations continue to demand accountability from the so-called authorities, accusing them of disregarding a crucial step toward restoring constitutional order. While members of the CPT remain silent and refuse to provide explanations to the citizens, these organizations insist that a detailed report on the failure of the referendum be made public.

All things considered, as many keen observers had already predicted, elections will not take place by the end of this year. This also explains the maneuvers already underway by members of the Transitional Presidential Council to extend their mandate. The Haitian people must not reward incompetence.
