“Fè mare bourik la”, against violence against women

This is the latest sound from artist Jean Jean Roosevelt. First and foremost, it’s an awareness-raising message calling for the denunciation of tormentors in situations of violence against women. Released over two years ago, the song is being videoclipped this year and put on rotatation on the eve of International Women’s Rights Day.

With this project, the artist has joined the “Spot light” initiative, an organization that promotes women’s rights. With this text, the Jérémie native invites female victims to lodge complaints with the appropriate authorities, and to face up to the fear of reprisals.

The artist acknowledges, however, that the emergence of women in a macho society such as ours remains an ordeal. Discrimination, insecurity, vulnerability, a whole series of barriers to women’s emancipation.

Jean Jean Roosevelt deplores the fact that in the 21st century, women are still struggling to have their rights respected. Humanity shouldn’t still be at this stage, complains the champion of the Franconian Games in 2013.

“In the Haitian music sector, sometimes women can’t pursue a career. Either they are discouraged by the vagaries, or at least constrained by the barriers of patriarchy”, explains Jean Jean.

To mark International Women’s Day, the singer of “Gade lè w” firmly believes that this battle must inevitably involve unity. Women must work together, in all fields, to ensure that their rights are respected. The artist also encourages them to support each other, for a better representation in society.
