This decision follows Washington’s designation of the “Viv Ansanm” and “Gran Grif” criminal coalitions as terrorist organizations.
Initially, the CNDDR’s aim was to engage in dialogue with these gangs, in the hope of finding peaceful solutions to the violence raging in the country.
However, the U.S. reaction has struck fear into the hearts of CPT members, who fear they may be subject to similar sanctions.
This concern has led them to refuse any form of dialogue with what they now consider to be terrorists, and to dissolve the CNDDR, thus putting an end to an initiative aimed at reconciliation.
