On April 17, 2025, employees of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) demonstrated, expressing anger and despair at months of neglect, including three months without pay.
This situation has plunged many families into uncertainty, raising legitimate demands for the respect of workers’ fundamental rights.
The demonstrators denounced catastrophic working conditions and a minister, Georges Wilbert Franck, accused of contempt, corruption and broken promises, which had eroded confidence in him.
Employees demanded his dismissal. MAST’s silence in the face of this crisis aggravates the situation, turning discontent into protest action.
MAST needs to take concrete steps to solve these problems, by offering decent wages and working conditions and open dialogue.
Failure to act could lead to a deeper fracture in the institution’s credibility. The government must act to protect those who work for the common good.
