The migration crisis between Haiti and the Dominican Republic has been exacerbated by the expulsion of more than 119,000 Haitians in an irregular situation in less than four months.<\/strong><\/p> \n \n

Dominican migration policy, led by President Luis Abinader, aims to reduce “migrant overpopulation” and is accompanied by controversial methods, such as collective expulsions denounced by Amnesty International.<\/p> \n \n

Meanwhile, Haiti, already in the grip of a serious internal crisis, is struggling to respond to this situation, with a massive return of expellees to a country in disarray.<\/p> \n \n

The absence of reception and support plans reinforces the urgent need for regional cooperation.<\/p> \n \n

We call for international mediation and stress that migration cannot be solved by force, but requires social justice and solidarity to prevent further violence and poverty in the region.<\/p> \n
